Are CMS like Wordpress good enough to be used for big portal site?

Can Wordpress handle and be used for big business portal site that has e commerce transactions, database profiles of few hundred thousand businesses, messenging/ chat , forum community etc.? Or is it better to start from scratch and do native ?
